Learn to Lead- Rock Climbing Course

Learn the skills to become and independent rock climber

Our Learn to Lead Rock climbing courses are a great way for confident seconds to build on their experience and start to Lead climb. Lead climbing requires a great deal of skill and judgement with no two situations ever quiet being the same. You need to build a good solid foundation of climbing on a number of different rock types but the rewards are fantastic. Trad lead climbing is the main type of climbing that we do in the UK whether it is a rock climb or even a winter climb.

This course is designed to help you start to build your experience of placing gear, managing risk, selecting the right routes in the first place and looking after yourself at the crag. It can be done on a single pitch or multi pitch crag and we have a wealth of these around the Fort William and Glencoe area.

Some of the things covered during a Learn to Lead course are:

• Building belays
• Belaying a leader
• Belaying a second from the top of a route/pitch
• Abseiling
• Guidebook interpretation and route reading
• Using and selecting a range of rock climbing gear
• Placing gear
• Tactical and technical input to lead climbing
• Movement skills

Our maximum ratio for this course is 1:2 and prices start at £300 for the day for a private course an the course length is based around your needs and experience. Alternatively we have some open group courses through the summer at a cost of £750 per person.
