We offer a whole range of Scottish winter climbing courses based out of Fort William, Glencoe or the Cairngorms. Our courses are designed around your needs and wants so you can get the best out of your time with us.
Whether you're looking for your first steps with a winter skills course, where you will learn how to move safely around in the Scottish mountains using Crampons and Ice axe, learning how to read avalanche forecasts and how to travel safely around avalanche terrain and learning how to navigate in the winter mountains. These skills are the 'bread and butter' of winter mountaineering and climbing and a must for anyone looking to progress.
If you already have some basic winter skills and would like to learn some winter mountaineering skills, like moving over steeper snow or mixed terrain, using a rope to safeguard you and your partner with skills like belay construction, anchor selection and snow anchors. These skills will help you tackle some of Scotland's great ridges and are transferable to the high mountain and alpine environment.
Winter climbing in Scotland is world renowned for being challenging but also very rewarding. The changeable weather, short daylight hours and the wild feel of climbing in Scotland are what makes it so memorable. Some of the most famous routes like Tower ridge, Point five gully, Orion direct, Curved ridge and the Skye Cuillin Ridge are high on the wish list of many visiting climbers. Maybe you fancy tackling some of the classic ice routes on Ben Nevis or mixed climbing in the Cairngorms? Our winter climbing course will give you the opportunity to look at building winter belays, route selection, the climbing techniques used for mixed and Ice climbing to help you build the skills set to head out on your own or if you are just after a great guided day out in the hills, we have a course for you.
Due to the bespoke nature of our courses, we can build a course around exactly what you need. Below are just some examples of the kind of courses we can offer, please inquire if you'd like to know more. Some kit hire is available for all of our winter courses but is limited. Kit can also be hired locally from most of the outdoor stores in town.
"We spent 2 days with Scott, under his instruction he helped us develop existing skills and learn much more. His professionalism, skill and attitude gave us confidence, inspiration and a standard to aim for while at every moment being humble and eager to share and give us as much of his knowledge as possible. Cannot thank him enough and I can highly recommend him."
